Italy is regularly listed as one of the top tourist and business destinations.
But which regions are the most attractive for business travel, and why should you take your team there on your next team retreat?

Lombardy

Houses line a lakeside, with a church tower rising among them, set against a backdrop of lush green hills and towering mountains under a clear blue sky.

The northwest region has always had central importance in the history of Italy, from being a trade hub in the 11th century to being the country's leading industrial and commercial region, with Milan as a financial centre. Lombardy has become a popular destination for business tourism due to several key factors:

  • It is a business hub, which makes it a preferred destination for meetings and conferences
  • It is very well connected to other international hubs through train and flights
  • Milan offers world-class infrastructure when it comes to meeting and conference facilities
  • The culture and nature of the region have a significant role to play as well, offering a wide range of in and outdoor activities usually at the venue’s doorstep.
  • Last but not least, the gastronomy, of course.

Tuscany

A winding road lined with tall cypress trees leads to a villa under a vibrant sunset, surrounded by rolling green hills.

This region is often called the birthplace of the Renaissance in cities such as Florence, where the best of gastronomy, architecture and art seem to meet. In addition to its rich history, the region boasts stunning natural landscapes and a laidback lifestyle that appeals to many, from tourists to businesses.

  • Easy access via Pisa or Florence International Airports
  • A countryside backdrop that offers myriads of activities from horseback riding to mountain biking.
  • With hills covered with vineyards as far as the eye can see, the region offers one of the best wine-tasting experiences in the country.
  • The region has managed to respect its history while modernising its infrastructure to welcome teams in settings that combine the beauty of the past centuries with the latest tech and amenities.

Lazio

Buildings with terracotta roofs cluster on a hillside, surrounded by rugged mountains covered in green forest under a partly cloudy blue sky. A winding road leads into the village.

While the region might not be as famous as the two previous ones we’ve mentioned, Lazio is the region of Rome, the country's capital—a world-renowned city with international landmarks such as the Coliseum. While Rome is a must-see, the rest of the region should not be dismissed.

  • The Sabine Hills offer magnificent views and are “covered” with perched beautiful little villages, abbeys and medieval castles.
  • The Farfa River and its natural gorges offer a fantastic playground for team-building activities outdoors.
  • The area is well connected with international airports in Rome and reliable trains from Rome calling throughout the region

Piemonte

A hilltop village with a church tower and colorful houses overlooks lush vineyards, surrounded by green fields and distant mountains under a clear sky.

The north-west region that shares a border with France, and Switzerland offers breathtaking scenery from rolling hills and vineyards to the Alps mountains. It is also the region of Turin, known for its baroque architecture and cuisine. Here are some of the reasons the region stands out:

  • In terms of outdoor activity, you can pretty much do it all: skiing, hiking in the Alps, swimming in one of the 20 lakes, cycling around the vineyards…and all of it with incredible backdrops.
  • It is easy to access, thanks to Turin’s international airport.
  • The region is famous for its produce, such as the Alba white truffles and is ideal for wine tastings and team cooking classes.
  • Piemonte is another region of Italy dotted with medieval towns and castles, making for great meeting places filled with History.

Umbria

A quaint hillside village with colorful buildings overlooks lush green mountains. Misty clouds drift across the vibrant landscape, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere.

The Umbria region, located at the centre of the country, is often referred to as the Green Heart of the country as it is known for being very fertile yet with relatively unspoiled nature. It boasts dense forests, lakes and waterfalls of pristine water and 31 of its villages are listed as some of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

What sets Umbria apart is:

  • It is less touristy than Tuscany or Lombardy, which provides a more peaceful or secluded environment for a team retreat, nurturing deeper relationships and focused work.
  • The unspoiled nature, as mentioned above
  • Its cuisine, known for its simple “farm to table” approach, is ideal for companies valuing sustainability practices.
  • While not as central, the region is well connected. It is easy to fly to Rome or Florence and then take a train to your destination in the Umbria region.
